A Croatian director, who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Czech Republic. He wrote and directed various feature films, more than twenty short films, and fifteen television documentaries. His films have been selected for screening at festivals including the Cannes International Film Festival, and his first feature film This is the Summer of White Roses in 1989 won the Best Director Award and the Grand Prix at the Tokyo International Film Festival. He also taught directing at Ohio University, served as artistic director of the Motovun Film Festival, and is a member of the European Film Academy.
