A German-Austrian actor, born in Darmstadt, Germany. He gained international recognition thanks to his role in Sissi (1955). After this movie, he participated in Peeping Tom (1960). After a 1970s trip to Africa, he went from being an actor to a humanitarian activist. He is known for his charitable and non-governmental organization activities. In 1983, he withdrew from acting circles to devote his full time to this organization. After his illness, he resigned the organization's presidency to his wife, Almaz, whom he met in Africa and married in 1991.
