A German actor who took acting lessons in Braunschweig and began his artistic career in 1918 at the Stadttheater Hildesheim. He worked in Hamburg. He also worked at the Prussian State Theater in Berlin and worked in theater in Basel, Switzerland, but he returned to Hamburg in 1935. His film debut was Der Ammenkönig (1935). He resided in Küsnacht and was a member of the Schauspielhaus Zürich ensemble in Switzerland. He is known for Great Freedom No. 7 (1944) and Sissi (1955).
