When Berkman began working as a screenwriter in the 1950s, his first collaboration with his brother-in-law, Rafael Blau, was Bedtime for Bonzo (1951). He also wrote Fear Strikes Out (1957), Edge of Fury (1958), and Girl in the Night  (1960).
