A Syrian writer and director who has directed and edited documentaries and narrative films. He gained fame for his work on contemporary Syrian issues and the political transition in the Middle East. He is known for Last Men in Aleppo (2017) and The Cave (2019). Among his many awards and nominations are two Oscar nominations and two Primetime Emmy Award nominations, in addition to winning the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
