He was an American actor, born October 6, 1897 in New York, New York, United States. He began his artistic career in 1923 and his artistic career spanned more than 36 years. He is best known for The Maltese Falcon (1941),The Fountainhead and Mr. Skeffington (1944), and Young Man with a Horn (1950). He died on January 24, 1972 in Los Angeles, California.
