British actress born Phyllis Hannah Bickle in Chelsea, London on 18 February 1915. She started off as a dancer and studied dancing until an injury forced her to quit. She first appeared on stage at the age of 10, and made her onscreen debut at 12 years old on The Arcadians (1927). However, her breakthrough role was opposite James Mason in The Man in Grey (1943). Other notable works of hers include The Magic Bow (1946), Time Out of Mind (1947), and Crash of Silence (1952) for which she was nominated for a BAFTA Award. She was married once and had a daughter and a son. Her last stage appearance was in 1994, her last film appearance in 1997, and her last TV appearance in 2000. She passed away on 8 October, 2002 in Surrey, England.
