He graduated from Hollywood High School in 1938 and attended Fox Military School in Los Angeles. Alan took his way into acting as a baby, appearing in several silent films, and stood on Broadway at the age of 10. He made his first film as a boy when he was 12 years old in Wild Boys of the Road (1933) and continued to work until his death in Los Angeles, California, USA on January 2, 1990 of thymus lymphoma.
