• An American historian and actor, born in the United States. He began acting while still a student and later became a university professor and historian. He attended Beverly Hills...Read more High School and studied for a year at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, before transferring to the University of California, where he was working as an actor. He earned a BA in history, then an MA in European history from the same institution, and a PhD in European history. He was discovered by Lee Wallace, casting director for 20th Century Fox, to star in The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis (1959), Guns to Apache Pass (1967), and Thumb Tripping (1972).
