An American actor, born on September 22, 1886, in Virginia City, Nevada. Cavanaugh attended the University of California. He worked in Vaudeville. He began his acting career on the stage while he was an engineering student at the University of California, appearing on Broadway in 1916. He made his film debut in 1928 and appeared in nearly 180 films. He died on April 27, 1950, in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California. He is best known for his roles in Don't Bet on Blondes (1935), Dark Hazard (1934), and An Angel from Texas (1940).
