An English writer, born in Maidenhead, United Kingdom. He studied at Mount St Mary's College from 1905 to 1906 and studied civil engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He traveled widely as a civil engineer before enlisting in the British Army in World War I, where he was seriously wounded in the war. Many works were based on his works, including the TV series Jackanory (1965), Doctor Dolittle (1970), and the movie Dolittle (2020). He died on September 26, 1947.
