A German director,  born in Dresden, Germany. He worked in the United States and is famous for presenting thriller films, especially in the fourth decade of the twentieth century. He worked as a theater director and bank employee. At the age of 26, he began working for his cousin, producer Seymour Nebenzal, collecting original silent films from old film reel archives before becoming an editor and screenwriter. He persisted in this role until he persuaded his cousin to fund the creation of his debut film, Menschen am Sonntag (1930), and subsequently collaborated with director Curtis Bernhardt on Conflict (1945), a film based on Siodmak's story.
