An Egyptian composer and actor born in El Sayeda Zeinab, Cairo. From a very young age, he used to sing at weddings and special occasions. He was discovered by musician Sayed Darwish who admired his voice and his ability to memorize songs, and hired him to help singers memorize...Read more songs at Ali El Kassar's theater troupe, where Darwish worked as a composer. He also acted in several of their productions. In 1927, he worked as a teacher at the Arab Music Institute, and was chosen as a member of a committee to compile an archive of folk music which paved the way to the formation of the Arab Music Orchestra in 1968. He composed the scores for several plays, films, and sketches. His credits include Ringing of an Anklet, Mr. KishKish's Adventures, and Shaloom the Translator. He died on 7 January 1980.
