During World War II, he was a minesweeper commander in the U.S....Read more Navy. He went back to work as a reporter for The Evening Sun in Baltimore after the war, where he was promoted in 1947. He quit the newspaper to work for the brand-new television network WMAR-TV. From 1961 to 1998, he covered and hosted a lot of sporting events on its ABC stations, earning an Emmy Award for his work in the sports industry. He was also in charge of introducing the World Cup match analysis studio from 1994 to 2006.
