An American actor, who was born on July 18, 1902 in Segoville, Texas. He was a performer since early childhood, forming and leading the Avalon Boys singing band in the 1930s. He moved to acting in 1934, and took part in several film roles, including Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), Giant (1956), and McLintock! (1963). He was nominated for the Academy Awards for his role in The Alamo (1960). He died on December 15, 1978 in Encino, California, of cancer.
