Egyptian archaeologist and Egyptologist born on 28 May 1947 in Damietta. He was previously Minister of Antiquities. He graduated with a degree in Greco-Roman Antiquities from the faculty of Arts, University of Alexandria in 1967. In 1979, he received a diploma in Egyptology from Cairo University. He worked at the Great Pyramids as an inspector - something between a manager and an archaeologist. At age 33, he got the Fulbright Fellowship to attend Penn State University in Philadelphia to study Egyptology. He received a Master's degree in Egyptology and Syrian-Palestinian antiquities in 1983 and a PhD in Egyptology in 1987.
