An American actor born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. His career spanned five decades. He studied at Williams College and worked on Broadway since the mid-1920s. He began his film career with the film Sweet Adeline (1934) and began his television career in the early 1950s. Among his works are Perry Mason (1959-1966), Adam-12 (1970-1974), Murder Is News (1937), Docks of New Orleans (1948), and Batman (1966).
