An American actor and jazz musician, born May 30, 1909, in Chicago, to a poor immigrant Jewish father. At the age of ten, he began to learn the clarinet, and at the age of twelve he began playing in theater orchestras and other dance groups. Goodman was able to develop his artistic abilities when he was with the Ben Pollack Orchestra. In 1926, he recorded his first solo recording with a clarinet. He was awarded the George Peabody Medal in 1982. He died June 13, 1986 in New York. He is famous for his appearance in The Gang's All Here.
