British actor born Horace Edward Jenner in Mansfield, England on 30 July 1882. He worked in showbusiness from a very early age, even joining the circus before leaving for the US in 1912 and working on Broadway. In 1915, he headed to Hollywood and appeared in his first silent film His Wife (1915), which led to a period of stardom in silent films. However, he also managed to succeed in the shift between silent and talking films, his first talkie was On Trial (1928). He appeared in several horror films like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931), The Invisible Man (1933), and Tower of London (1939). In the 1940s, he appeared in several Sherlock Holmes films, the first being The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1939). His last appearance was on The Brigand (1952). He passed away on 26 December 1956 in Los Angeles, California.
