He was the brother of physicist André Kahane and mathematician Jean-Pierre Kahane, and the son of Ernest Kahane, a biochemist and university professor. He started his film career working as an assistant to René Clair and Christian-Jaque. He directed several films and television productions, such as The Love Mates (1970), Je suis vivante et je vous aime (1998), Papa Poule (1980-1982), and Apostrophes (1975-1979). He died on June 30, 2013, in Ivry-sur-Seine, France.
