An American expressionist and actress, born in Biskra, Prussia. She studied singing in Warsaw, Poland, and acting in Moscow, Russia. After relocating to New York City in 1922, she spent ten years performing on Broadway, attended the American Theatre to study acting, and in 1929 established the School of Dramatic Art in New York City. Her works include The Wolf Man (1941), Conquest (1937), and Love Affair (1939).
