American actor born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on 30 April 1916. He's best known as Luke Skywalker's uncle in Star Wars: A New Hope (1977). His other film roles include State Fair (1945) and Chaplin (1992). He was married to Virginia Brown and had one son. He died on 9 February 2006 in Hollywood, California of pneumonia, at age 89.
