French singer, songwriter, actress, and author, born in Pierrefonds, Quebec, Canada. In her teenage years, she was passionate about horseback riding, but at the age of seventeen, she loved acting; she left horseback riding and acted in a Parisian play. She changed her name to Mylene Farmer in honor of Frances Farmer, a Hollywood actress who rose to fame in the 1930s. Farmer also earned her living by appearing in television commercials. She met producer Laurent Boutonnat and they formed a partnership that lasted several years, writing and producing songs together. Her most important works include Incident in a Ghostland (2018), Arthur and the Invisibles (2006), and Giorgino (1994).
