In 1947, he arrived in Hollywood and started writing screenplays under a ten-week contract with Columbia Pictures' director, writer, and producer Robert Rossen. He is known for The Magnificent Seven (1960), Paris Blues (1961), Fail Safe (1964), and The Train (1964).
