A Japanese actress, born in Yokohama, Japan, as Masae Aida, to a family with three daughters and five sons. She married director Hisatora Kumagai and won the Mainichi Film Festival Prize and the Ripon Prize awarded by film critics and writers. Hara devoted her life to her parents. Setsuko is famous for many works, such as the film Late Spring (1949) and the film Early Summer (1951).
