French actor, director and theater producer, born on September 8, 1910, in Yvelines, France. He made his debut by acting on the stage and professional mime. His directorial career began in 1935. He got married to the actress Madeleine Renaud in 1940 and together they founded several theaters. He worked as director of the Nation's Theater and the Théâtre d'Orsay. Among his most important works are: Children of Paradise (1945), The Longest Day (1962), and The Miracle of the Wolves (1961). He died on January 22, 1994 in Paris due to a heart attack.
