American actress born in Brooklyn, New York on 5 September 1901. She began her career in touring companies and on Broadway. She's known for Les Misérables (1935), Thirteen Women (1932) and Inherit the Wind (1960). She was married to actor Fredric March from 1927 till his death in 1975, and they appeared together in a number of films, including Mary of Scotland (1936). She passed away on 1 August 1988 in California of a heart attack, at age 86.
