American actor born in Chicago, Illinois on 8 September 1900. He began his career in regional theater, then acted on Broadway by 1920. His most notable works include Mary of Scotland (1936), Johnny Trouble (1957), and Night Tide (1961). He made various television appearances from 1952 till 1965. He passed away on 24 May 1972 in Florida, at age 71.
