An American director, photographer, and writer, who grew up in an artistic family. He studied English literature at Harvard University, then started a partnership to make educational films, and worked at NBC making public affairs programs. He produced several award-winning documentaries, such as The Eskimo: Fight for Life, and a documentary about the Angolan civil war. He won the Camera d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and an award at the San Sebastián Film Festival for Alambrista! in 1978.
