She was an American writer, poet, and art critic. She was born in California, USA, to author Theodora Kroeber and anthropologist Alfred Louis Kroeber. She obtained a BA in Renaissance French and Italian literature from Radcliffe College in 1952, and also completed a master's degree in the French language. Later, she received a Fulbright scholarship from the US government to complete her studies in France. She wrote children's books, short stories, poems, and articles, and some of her writings were turned into films, such as Tales from Earthsea (2006) and The Lathe of Heaven (1980). She died on January 22, 2018, in Oregon, USA.
