American actress born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on 3 May 1899. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Dragon Seed (1944). Other notable works of hers include One Way Passage (1932), The World Changes (1933), and Kind Lady (1935). She died on 12 October 1991 of pneumonia, at age 92.
