An English film and stage actor, born on September 6, 1977, in Marylebone, London, to a psychologist mother and John Carvel, a journalist. He was educated at University College School, Hampstead. He earned a first-class honors degree in English from the University of Sussex and won a place at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 2003. He is a patron of the Globe Theatre's education department's Playing Shakespeare program. He is known for Dalgliesh (2021) and The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021).
