An Indian actor and writer. He began his artistic career in theater and cinema, and is famous for his roles in Ek Tha Tiger (2012) and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017). He received the Padma Shri award in 1974 and the Padma Bhushan in 1992. The United States of America presented his plays...Read more and translated some of his recent novels into English. The International Theater Corporation honored him as an ambassador for world theater. He was the National Academy of Performing Arts' and Sangeet Natak Akademi's chairman (1988–1993), as well as the Film and Television Institute of India's director (1974–1975). In addition to teaching at the University of Chicago, he was a Fulbright playwright-in-residence from 1987 to 1988. In addition, he held the positions of Minister of Culture in the Indian High Commission in London, England, and Director of the Nehru Center from 2000 to 2003. Among his most important films are Nagamandala (1997), Vamsha Vichaksha (1971), and Nishant (1975).
