An American woman, who became famous because of her trial and acquittal of the axe murders of her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts in 1892. The murders received widespread publicity throughout the United States. After her release from the prison where she had been detained during the trial period, Borden chose to remain in Fall River, Massachusetts, for the rest of her life, despite being ostracized by society. Her life story was adapted into the film Dance Theatre of Harlem: Fall River Legend, which was released in 1989.
