An Indian actress and theater director, who is considered one of the pioneers of the experimental theater movement. She was born and raised in Mumbai, where she attended Siddhartha College in Fort, Mumbai, where she eventually earned a degree in education. She started out as a teacher at Chhabildas Boys' High School in Dadar, Mumbai, before becoming interested in theater when she asked playwright Vijay Tendulkar to write plays for her students. After winning state-level competitions for plays like Madhlya Bhintee, she started her acting career with the Rangayan group, which was created by Vijay Tendulkar and others. She co-founded the theater group Awishkar after the dissolution of the Rangayan group. She became famous for her role in Shantata! Court Chalu Aahe (1971).
