A Bengali-Indian actress and model who grew up in Hyderabad, India. She began her artistic career in 1959 when director Satjay Rai discovered her and cast her in the film Apur Sansar when she was fourteen years old. She worked in Ray's films in secondary roles, then participated in the film Kashmir Ki Kali in 1964. She married actor Rajesh Khanna and participated with him in several films such as Aradhana, Amar Prem, and Daag. In 1968, she married cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan.
