A British actress born in Pimlico, London, England, UK. She was known for her work in British theater. Additionally, she appeared in numerous films and was a three-time Academy Award nominee. Her roles include Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest (on stage and in the 1952 film adaptation of the same name) and Miss Western in Tom Jones (1963). She died on October 14, 1976.
