An Indian film and television actress, born in 1929 in India. She was the mother of director Romilla Mukherjee. She made her film debut in the 1963 Bengali-language film Ram Dhakka. However, she retired from acting, then her film career took off with a brief role in Snip! (2000). She also appeared in commercials. She is best known for Devdas (2002), The Firm Land (2008), and Siddharth: The Prisoner (2009). She died on January 15, 2018, in India.
