A Danish-American actor, born on July 12, 1886, in Copenhagen, Denmark, as Jean Pierre Carl Buron Hersholt. His works include Greed (1924), Heidi (1937), and The Mask of Fu Manchu (1932). Hersholt graduated from the Copenhagen Art School. He was president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from 1945 to 1949. He married Via Andersen on April 11, 1914, and they had one son, Allan Hersholt. He died on June 2, 1956, in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA.
