British actress born Helene Lilian Muriel Pape in Hornsey, London on 19 January 1906 to a German father and an English mother. In her childhood and adolescence, she lived in several countries in Europe and studied languages and classical dance as well as ballet. She made her onscreen debut on the silent film The Curse (1925). Afterwards, she signed a deal with UFA to appear in talking films, since she had the advantage of speaking several languages. She took part in German, British, French, and Italian films. Her works include Three from the Filling Station (1930), Congress Dances (1931), My Lips Betray (1933), and Miquette (1940). She worked as a volunteer nurse in the United States during WWII. She was married in 1953 and got divorced in 1957. She retired in the French Riviera and passed away on 27 July 1968.
