An American actress, born in Douglas, Arizona, USA, on September 13, 1916. She was married four times and had no children. Her most important works are A Christmas Carol (1938), Calling Dr. Kildare (1939), and Dulcy (1940). She starred in American films from the mid-1930s until the late 1940s, in adventure films, and the American West. She was born to a father who worked as a mining engineer, and when she won a beauty contest, she moved to Hollywood at an early age in search of a film career. She participated in several musical films as Goldwyn Girl with RKO under the name Virginia Reed, before moving to MGM and changing her name to Lynn Carver. She is best known for her role as Alice Raymond in the Doctor Kildare film series, and she starred as Barbara in the musical film Maytime (1937) . Her film career was affected during World War II, so she turned to adventure films and the American West. She did not reach the success she had in pre-war films, and her ill health forced her to stop filming in 1948, yet she had some professional activity in theater and television. She died in 1955 affected by cancer at the age of 38.
