Halliwell Hobbes was born in Stratford-upon-Avon Warwickshire, England, United Kingdom on November 16, 1877, as Herbert Halliwell Hobbes. He died in Santa Monica, California, USA, on February 20, 1962, of a heart attack. Halliwell is best known for You Can't Take It With You (1938), The Undying Monster (1942), Halliwell Hopper: Gaslight (1944), and Canyon Passage (1946). He appeared for the first time in 1898 performing Shakespeare's plays. He left for America in 1906 and did theatrical acting, and then directed some works, until early 1929. In the forties, he returned to theatrical work on Broadway, to present the role of Capulet in the play Romeo and Juliet. At the beginning of the fifties, he began to turn to television series. Halliwell retired from acting in 1956 due to heart disease and died in 1962 of a heart attack at the age of 84.
