An American actress who was born on January 23, 1919, Beatrice, Nebraska. She began her acting career as Ellen Clancy. She moved with her parents to Los Angeles as a teenager, and graduated from Beverly Hills High School. She signed a seven-year contract with Warner Bros. in 1937, after which she changed her stage name to Janet Shaw. She made her debut in 1935, then acted in films including Night Monster (1942), Shadow of a Doubt (1943), and The Old Maid (1939). She died on October 15, 2001 in Beatrice, Nebraska, from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
