A British-American actor who was born in Balham, London, England, on April 16, 1913, and died in Santa Monica, California, USA on December 19, 2003 of heart failure. He is best known for The War of the Worlds (1953), North by Northwest (1959), The Story of Ruth (1960) and The Fortune Cookie (1966). He got his first radio job in Chicago when he was 17 years old. He joined Northwestern University, where he studied Greek drama at the Art Institute of Chicago, and also studied at Columbia and California Universities, where he studied anthropology. Tremayne began his television work with the series One Man's Family. His last role was in the series The Pirates of Dark Water (1991-1992).
