An Italian-American actor and director, born in Palermo, Sicily, Italy, as Joseph Sciurba. He married Paula Lindenbaum, they had two children, and she remained with him until his death. He also had a daughter from a previous marriage. His credits as an actor include Ace in the Hole (1951) and Ocean's 11 (1960,) and his most important works as a director include Mission: Impossible (1967-1969) and Get Smart (1969). Born in Italy, he traveled with his parents to the United States of America when he was seven years old. He worked as a professional boxer, before his trip to Hollywood to become a professional in film work, and his strong and intimidating appearance led to him being confined to the role of a strong, loyal man. His most famous role was the role of Leo Minosa in the movie Ace in the Hole (1951). Benedict worked in cinema and television. In 1962, he began directing, and most of his directing work was in television as he directed for cinema 5 works and 58 works for television. He died in Studio City, California, USA, on April 25, 1984, as a result of a heart attack.
