A Brazilian politician who served as the thirty-sixth President of Brazil, becoming the first Brazilian woman to hold this position. She was born in  Belo Horizonte. She is a member of the Brazilian Workers' Party. President Lula da Silva appointed her as Chief of the Presidential Staff in 2005, making her the first woman to hold that position. She ran for president of Brazil in the 2010 Brazilian presidential elections, winning 58% of the total votes. She officially assumed the position on January 1, 2011. She spent three years of her life in prison and regained her freedom in 1972. She studied economics, was part of the Labor Party, and supported its moderate movement. President da Silva appointed her as Minister of Energy, and in 2005 he assigned her to form the government after a number of ministers resigned due to a corruption scandal that shook the country. Dilma Rousseff endured two divorces and triumphed over cancer-related death. Some of the documentaries that have dealt with her life and career include The Trial (2018) and The Edge of Democracy (2019).
