An American writer, director, and producer, born on January 1, 1979, in Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York, USA. Her father worked as an anthropologist, and her mother worked as a social worker. She attended Edward R. Morrow High School in Brooklyn, where she was a fan of theater. She graduated from Indiana University in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in theater and drama, but later went on to study art and film. In 2010, she received a master's degree in fine arts from the School of Film/Video at California Institute of the Arts. She is known for Beach Rats (2017) and It Felt Like Love (2013).
