An American actor and director, was born in New York City, on February 18, 1900. Russell's notable film roles include: Street Scene (1931), Once in a Lifetime (1932) and The Little Giant (1933). In 1936, he directed two films: Black Gold and Song of the Trail. He committed suicide by overdosing on sleeping pills on 1945, at the age of 45.
