She graduated from Nuestra Señora del Pilar School and then went to the University of Puerto Rico, where she studied social sciences. She began her career as a model, and in 1966, she represented and won the Miss Puerto Rico pageant. She also competed in the Miss Universe pageant that same year. She later became an actress, appearing in films such as The Godfather Part II and Lean on Me, and television series including Switched at Birth, Glee, and Teen Wolf.
