Irish actor and theater director, born in Londonderry, Ireland on August 4, 1918. He studied acting at the London Dramatic School. He began working in cinema since the early fifties, and he appeared in television series in the late fifties. He won the CDA Award for Best British Supporting Actor in 1956, and also the 1962 Tony Award as Best Dramatic Director for the play "A Man for All Seasons". His important works include: 21 Hours at Munich (1976), Androcles and the Lion (1952), and The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956). He died in New York City, on December 24, 1988.
